About the Trip

Limi Valley is a remote Trans-Himalayan valley in Humla district bordering Tibet, comprising three villages: Til (4100m), Jang (3930m), and Halji (3700m). The only society in Humla ruled by a monastic theocracy, Limi enforces stiff monetary penalties for disobedience and misbehavior, and practices strict polyandrous marriage. It offers rich opportunities for researchers in mountain life, and a visit offers a chance to experience the Shangri-La village of an ancient Buddhist community in a narrow valley by the Drakchi River. This trail through high mountain meadows, towering cliffs, and alpine forests boasts a diverse flora and fauna, including endangered wild yak, snow leopards, and Himalayan marmots. It is the only place in Nepal to capture Mount Kailash and holy lake Manasarovar from Lapcha la. Trekking in Limi Valley is a lifetime experience, and we offer the best trekking packages below.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1400 m), Nepal and transfer hotel.

Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, which sits at an elevation of 1,302 meters or 4,270 feet, our staff will be waiting to receive you and will escort you to your hotel. After settling in, you can take some time to refresh yourself or explore the surrounding area before accommodating in your hotel.

Day 02:Kathmandu sightseeing and trek preparation.

Kathmandu is Nepal’s cultural heart and has been a popular tourist destination since the country opened its borders. We will take a guided tour of Kathmandu Valley’s major world heritage sites after breakfast. The valley is a fascinating blend of Hinduism and Buddhism, and we will visit historical sites like Durbar Squares, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, and Bouddhanath. Bouddhanath has one of the world’s largest stupas.

After the tour, you’ll receive a briefing on what to expect and purchase any necessary trekking equipment before setting out on the trek the following day. You’ll spend the night at the hotel

Day 03:Flight from Kathmandu (to Nepalgunj (150 m).

You will be transported to the airport to catch a flight to Nepalgunj. If the weather is clear, you will be able to enjoy spectacular views of the Himalayan range during the flight. Upon arrival in Nepalgunj, our staff will be waiting to escort you to your hotel. Nepalgunj is located in the Terai region and can get quite hot during the summer months. You will have the afternoon free to explore Nepalgunj or simply relax at the hotel. We will spend the night at the hotel before continuing our journey

Day 04:Flight from Nepalgunj to Simikot (2950 m).

we will be transported to the airport to catch a flight to Simikot, which takes approximately 45 minutes. En route, we will enjoy stunning views of snow-capped mountains. Upon arrival, we will walk to our lodge, leaving our luggage there, and explore the village. Simikot is a small district headquarter of Humla with a majority of its population following the Hindu religion, and it is well worth staying overnight here.

Since Simikot is situated at a 2910 msl altitude, it is a good idea to spend the night here to allow your body to acclimatize.

Day 05:Trek from Simikot to Dharapori (2300 m).

Following breakfast, we will resume our trek, embarking on a short ascent to a small pass. From there, we will make a steep descent through pine forests to Majgaun. Continuing on, we will gradually descend through increasingly lush landscapes until we reach Dharapori, where we will set up our tents and spend the night.

One of the highlights of this leg of the journey is the opportunity to take in the stunning natural beauty of the area, including walking through shaded forests of pine trees. The picturesque scenery will provide a welcome respite from the rigors of the trek and serve as a reminder of the awe-inspiring power of nature.

Day 06:Trek from Dharapori to Kermi (2670 m).

We’ll start a short day of trekking after breakfast, leaving Dharapori and following the Karnali River. The trail will take us through hills until we reach a narrow gorge with high rocky slopes. After a few hours of trekking, we’ll reach Kermi, a small agricultural village with a predominantly Buddhist population.

We’ll arrive early, leaving us plenty of time to relax in the natural hot springs near the village. Before arriving in the village, we’ll come across a campsite that offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, where we’ll set up our tents for the night.

Day 07:Trek from Kermi to Yalvang (3048 m).

Following breakfast, we will begin our trek, passing through fields of barley and buckwheat. The trail will mostly be flat, with some uphill climbing. As we walk along the trail, we will cross a small pass and then descend to the Sali River. After crossing the river, we will continue through a dense pine forest, encountering mules and dzopas along the way.

Further along the trail, we will reach the fascinating village of Yalbang, where we can explore many interesting sites. Above the village is the Namkha Khyung Dzong Monastery, the largest monastery in the region. The monastery includes a school and clinic, and around 600 monks and nuns reside there. We will climb up to a nearby campsite and set up our tents for the night, with breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

Day 08: Trek from Yalbang to Tumkot (3100 m).

After breakfast, we’ll start trekking towards Yangar by following a trail that ascends above the Karnali River. The trail is relatively flat with a few carved rocks along the way. As we trek higher, the landscape changes from tall pine trees to small bushes, and the terrain becomes rockier. We’ll cross the Kamali River and then start ascending to the upper side of a deep gorge. After a few more hours of trekking, we’ll reach the village of Muchu, where we’ll camp at the nearby village of Tumkot. One of the highlights of this village is the Dhungkar Choezom Monastery, which is a very interesting monastery of Sakya lineage.

Day 09:Trek from Tumkot to Yari (4000 m).

Our breakfast will be had at the campsite before we resume the trail. The trail gradually ascends uphill with a few steep climbs. As we start trekking, we will witness the changing landscapes and rockier terrains, with only a few Juniper trees along the way. Trekking further will lead us to a small village called Pani Palwang, where we can halt for lunch. We will then cross the village and ascend to Yari, which is a couple of hours away. Upon reaching Yari, we can choose to camp in the village or trek a bit further to Thado Dunga, which is 50 meters higher in altitude than Yari. There is a suitable camping site near these villages where we will spend the night.

Day 10:Trek from Yari to Hilsa (3700 m).

Today’s trek is quite challenging as we cross the Nara La pass. After breakfast, we will begin our steep ascent, witnessing a desolate landscape with fewer trees and more animals like mules, yaks, and dzopas. However, the stunning views along the way make the journey worthwhile. Tado Dunga will serve as the base camp for Nara La pass, from where we’ll continue to climb up to the pass. There are two routes to the pass, and we’ll choose the traditional one, which is more gradual and offers excellent views of Tibet. After reaching the pass, we’ll descend to Hilsa, which is close to the Tibetan border. We’ll spend the night here, setting up our tents and resting after a long and tiring day.

Day 11:Trek from Hilsa to Manepedme (3900 m).

We will begin our trek from Hilsa to Manepeme after breakfast. As we cross the big iron bridge, the trail becomes slightly challenging. As we climb, we will rejoin the larger trail that follows the Karnali River. From here, the path will gradually climb with a few steep ups and downs in some parts of the trail. We will continue trekking through the gradual trail and reach Manepeme, where we will camp for the night. The trek is estimated to take about 4-5 hours.

Day 12:Trek from Manependme to Til (3900 m).

After breakfast, we will trek through high and steep rocks with two paths to choose from. One path passes through the meditation cave, Ya Yip Phuk, which has significant historical and cultural importance in Buddhism. We will come across green parts with juniper trees and bushes before reaching Til, an authentic Tibetan village surrounded by birches and terraced fields. After exploring Til, we will trek further down to a campsite near the river, where we will spend the night.

Day 13:Trek from Til to Halji (3700 m).

Today’s trek is a short and easy one. We will follow the Limi River through a flat trail, and after a few hours of trekking, we will reach Halji village. The Rinchenling Gompa monastery, built in the 14th century, is a major attraction of the village. We can either explore the village or relax in the camp for the rest of the day. Estimated time for the trek is 2-3 hours.

Day 14:Trek from Halji to Dzang Hot Springa (4100 m).

Today’s trek is easy and pleasant. Following breakfast, we’ll trace the Limi Khola to Jang, the last village in the valley and a Tibetan settlement. Jang is a cultural delight, with traditional Tibetan practices still being observed. We’ll explore the village and visit Falgeling Monastery, a notable cultural site. Afterward, we’ll trek for about an hour to our campsite in the hot spring area. Here, we can soak in the natural hot springs to rejuvenate our bodies for the night.

Day 15:Trek from Hot Spring to Talung (4300 m).

Today’s trek is longer than the previous days, so we will start early after having breakfast. We will leave the Limi valley and all the Tibetan villages behind and continue trekking towards Talung. The trail gradually ascends through impressive, desolated landscapes, and we will have to cross rivers several times. The thin air may also slow down our pace. We will continue trekking until we find a suitable camping site near a talung river where we can camp for the night.

Day 16:Trek from Talung to Shingjungma (3800 m).

Today’s trek is a challenging and unforgettable one, as we hike to the highest point of our journey. Initially, the trail is flat and we cross a few rivers, but must be cautious due to frozen stones. The steep climb to the pass is difficult, but reaching the summit rewards us with stunning 360-degree views of Humla and Tibet, including Mount Saipal and Mount Kailash. Descending steeply, we reach Lake Selma Tso before continuing down the Sali River to our Shinjungma campsite for the night.

Day 17: Trek from Shingjungma to Lek Dhinga (3681 m).

The trek from Singjungma to Lekdhina offers a stunning path that leads to a magnificent trail we must traverse, known as Sheji Pass, which stands at an altitude of approximately 4600 meters. After descending from the pass, we arrive at Lek Dhinga, where the local Dhinga and Hepka communities have their summer houses. This will be our campsite, and we can enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding area from Lek Dhinga.

Day 18:Trek from Lek Dhinga to Simikot

After having breakfast, we will begin our journey towards Simikot, where we will spend our final night and conclude our trek.

Day 19: Flight from Simikot to Kathmandu

We will take an early morning flight from Simikot to Nepalgunj, followed by a connecting flight to Kathmandu on the same day. Tonight, we will have a dinner party together to celebrate our successful trek and enjoy our time with the entire team.

Day 20: Departure from Kathmandu

Our final departure will be from Kathmandu, where we will bid farewell to each other. It has been a pleasure to serve you, and we look forward to the opportunity to do so again in the future. Thank you for choosing us for this unforgettable trekking experience.
